Botflagga

Jag skulle vilja ansöka om botflagga för GameOnBot. Så vitt jag förstått det kan jag inte spara med boten just för att jag inte har botflagga, exakt samma kod går nämligen att köra inloggad på mitt eget konto (jag gjorde endast en redigering som test). Botarbetet består i att fylla i arkiveringslänk och datum där mall:webbref används. Just redigeringen jag gjorde här är knappast värd att visa hur det ska gå eftersom den har problemet med att det egentligen är en död-länk som skall läggas in istället. Om redigeringarna skall bedömas så ta hellre en titt på botens senaste bidrag på svwp. GameOn 25 maj 2011 kl. 13.01 (CEST)

Jag får tacka för ditt snabba svar och beklaga att jag inte får förtroende på det här systerprojektet utan tolkar det tyvärr som någon sorts "hämnd" för min kritik mot dig här. Boten har trots allt gjort över 100 000 redigeringar på svwp och det jag gjort med den har inte setts som jag förstått det som något negativt av mer än någon enstaka person vid något tillfälle - även om den ibland gjort fel, vilket jag då sett till att rätta efter bästa förmåga. Jag kanske tolkar dig fel och då ber jag om ursäkt. Jag har ingen lust att driva några längre diskussioner om saken eftersom det är just metaaktivitet och diskussioner jag vill och bör undvika för både mitt och de olika projektens bästa men jag vill ändå beklaga om det är så att du låter gammalt groll mot mig ligga till grund för att det här projektet inte kan förbättras av min bot. Om du byter inställning till det specifika botarbetet angående förtroende för mig i framtiden så får du gärna höra av dig. GameOn 26 maj 2011 kl. 12.05 (CEST)

Detta känns spontant som ett jätteinteressant initiativ, och skulle även innebära en anledning för oss bidragsgivare att använda de här speciella referensmallarna, som idag inte används på så många sidor.

Jag har positiva erfarenheter av att jobba med GameOn, och jag upplever att det finns en vilja att rätta till eventuella fel och att föra diskussioner om hur man bäst skall gå framåt. Vad jag däremot önskar är att du testar den riktigt noga på Wikipedia först. Om man kan utföra sådana sysslor där så bör man sannerligen kunna göra det här. Hur går det med wp-redigeringarna? Det ser ut som om du har gjort en del återställningar av bottens redigeringar? Diupwijk 26 maj 2011 kl. 17.36 (CEST)

Det stämmer att jag gjorde en hel del återställningar i morse. Jag kollar i stort sett alla redigeringar boten gör när jag satt den på något nytt, om det ser ut att gå bra efter några hundratal så strökollar jag därefter istället med några minuters mellanrum på de som görs. En stor majoritet av de 100 000 redigeringarna är skapade omdirigeringar utifrån standardsorteringen i personartiklar och där blev det ca 10 fel som alla berodde på tidigare inkorrekt standardsortering i artiklarna, och där tittade jag av naturliga skäl inte på alla skapade artiklar. Allt såg ut att gå bra i morse, men direkt efter (egentligen efter en till redigering) jag slutade kontrollera alla och istället skrev ett inlägg till Lavallen angående att flera artiklar han har intresse för korrekt fick död länk-mallen efter att boten gått över dem så blev det fel med arkiveringen på webcitation.org vilket gav följdfel in i min kod vilket gav följdfel i 50-60 artiklar som jag därefter fick rulla tillbaka. Jag kommer inte köra igång boten innan den delen av koden är mer robust (något som jag redan hade konstaterat behövde fixas i en kommentar i koden - koden finns tillgänglig på svwp) samt lagt in lite fler funktioner som jag nämnde på Jopparns diskussion. Sedan blev jag nog onödigt sur av Thuressons svar och vill be om ursäkt för att jag i mitt inlägg ovan verkar som ett litet barn som inte får leka med någon annans leksaker. Jag kan garantera att både jag och boten kommer göra fler fel under resterande del av arbetet men att jag precis som på svwp och andra platser (jag kör ex. utan botstatus på wikisource där jag försökt knyta samman source mot systerprojekten bättre vilket gav en hel del fel) kommer åtgärda de fel som kommer uppstå efter bästa förmåga. Boten är tänkt att den ska göra en större genomgång först och sedan kontinuerligt mot senaste ändringar. Ska vi säga som så att vi försöker dra ett streck över det som hänt här ovan och jag återkommer när boten tuffat och gått på svwp utan större problem så får vi se vad beslutet blir då? Jag tänkte precis meddela vad som egentligen var felet, jag gick för hårt åt webcitations servrar så de blockerar mig tillfälligt. Jag försöker testa mig fram till en lämplig timeout mellan anropen nu utan att skriva mot någon server. Kontentan blir i alla fall att eventuellt botkörning på wikiquote nu ligger en bra bit framåt i tiden eftersom precis som du konstaterar så är wps länkar viktigare eftersom det är fler som ser dem. Jag återkommer, men det blir nog först efter sommaren kan jag tänka mig. GameOn 26 maj 2011 kl. 20.06 (CEST)

Idag kan boten köra, i och för sig med annan kod (på quote så lägger den till interwikilänkar här, på en och tidigare idag några på li) men varför det skulle göra någon skillnad förstår jag inte. Botflaggan behövs alltså egentligen inte, även om det skulle vara praktiskt vid ett senare tillfälle för att kunna köra igenom lite snabbare och inte behöva vänta så länge mellan varje redigering och inte heller då fylla SÄ med en massa redigeringar. Återkommer som sagt, men det kanske kan vara bra att förklara varför boten ändå kör här. GameOn 30 maj 2011 kl. 09.48 (CEST)

Call for image filter referendum

Announcing Wikipedia 1.19 beta

Wikimedia Foundation is getting ready to push out 1.19 to all the WMF-hosted wikis. As we finish wrapping up our code review, you can test the new version right now on beta.wmflabs.org. For more information, please read the release notes or the start of the final announcement.

The following are the areas that you will probably be most interested in:

• Faster loading of javascript files makes dependency tracking more important.
• New common*.css files usable by skins instead of having to copy piles of generic styles from MonoBook or Vector's css.
• The default user signature now contains a talk link in addition to the user link.
• Searching blocked usernames in block log is now clearer.
• Better timezone recognition in user preferences.
• Improved diff readability for colorblind people.
• The interwiki links table can now be accessed also when the interwiki cache is used (used in the API and the Interwiki extension).
• More gender support (for instance in logs and user lists).
• Language converter improved, e.g. it now works depending on the page content language.
• Time and number-formatting magic words also now depend on the page content language.
• Bidirectional support further improved after 1.18.

Report any problems on the labs beta wiki and we'll work to address them before they software is released to the production wikis.

Wikimedia Sverige tillsätter teknikpoolsutskott

Wikimedia Sverige har som en del i verksamhetsplanen för 2012 ett projekt som syftar till att skapa en rutin för att hjälpa gemenskapen att få tillgång till utrustning såsom (men inte nödvändigtvis begränsat till) inscanning, foto- och videoutrustning genom att skapa en välutrustad teknikpool eller låna särskild teknik.

Syftet är att stödja de olika Wikimediaprojekten. För att göra detta på bästa sätt, och sprida arbetet på flera engagerade användare, har styrelsen beslutat att tillsätta ett utskott, som skall ta fram förslag till och besluta om inköp inom projektets budget.

Gemenskapens projekt 2012

Har du velat göra något för Commons, Wikipedia, Wiktonary eller ett annat Wikimedia-projekt som du inte kunnat genomföra pga. att det kostade pengar eller att du saknade utrustning eller en bok? Just för dessa situationer finns årligen Gemenskapens Projekt. Förra året fick Wikimedia Sverige in 11 ansökningar och beslutade då för att under 2012 genomföra projektet i två faser. Nu är det dags för den första omgången!

Sista ansökningsdag är 19 april och projekten bör vara inrapporterade 31 juni. Mer information om hur ansökan bör formuleras finns på Wikimedia Sveriges wiki. Lycka till med era ansökningar!

Update on IPv6

The Wikimedia Foundation is planning to do limited testing of IPv6 on June 2-3. If there are not too many problems, we may fully enable IPv6 on World IPv6 day (June 6), and keep it enabled.

What this means for your project:

• At least on June 2-3, 2012, you may see a small number of edits from IPv6 addresses, which are in the form "2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334". See e.g. w:en:IPv6 address. These addresses should behave like any other IP address: You can leave messages on their talk pages; you can track their contributions; you can block them. (See the full version of this announcement for notes on range blocks.)

• In the mid term, some user scripts and tools will need to be adapted for IPv6.

• We suspect that IPv6 usage is going to be very low initially, meaning that abuse should be manageable, and we will assist in the monitoring of the situation.

Help decide about more than $10 million of Wikimedia donations in the coming year

As many of you are aware, the Wikimedia Board of Trustees recently initiated important changes in the way that money is being distributed within the Wikimedia movement. As part of this, a new community-led "Funds Dissemination Committee" (FDC) is currently being set up. Already in 2012-13, its recommendations will guide the decisions about the distribution of over 10 million US dollars among the Foundation, chapters and other eligible entities.

Now, seven capable, knowledgeable and trustworthy community members are sought to volunteer on the initial Funds Dissemination Committee. It is expected to take up its work in September. In addition, a community member is sought to be the Ombudsperson for the FDC process. If you are interested in joining the committee, read the call for volunteers. Nominations are planned to close on August 15.

Wikidata is getting close to a first roll-out

As some of you might already have heard Wikimedia Deutschland is working on a new Wikimedia project. It is called m:Wikidata. The goal of Wikidata is to become a central data repository for the Wikipedias, its sister projects and the world. In the future it will hold data like the number of inhabitants of a country, the date of birth of a famous person or the length of a river. These can then be used in all Wikimedia projects and outside of them.

The project is divided into three phases and "we are getting close to roll-out the first phase". The phases are:

1. language links in the Wikipedias (making it possible to store the links between the language editions of an article just once in Wikidata instead of in each linked article)
2. infoboxes (making it possible to store the data that is currently in infoboxes in one central place and share the data)
3. lists (making it possible to create lists and similar things based on queries to Wikidata so they update automatically when new data is added or modified)

It'd be great if you could join us, test the demo version, provide feedback and take part in the development of Wikidata. You can find all the relevant information including an FAQ and sign-up links for our on-wiki newsletter on the Wikidata page on Meta.

I am searching for volunteers to spend 30 minutes on a Skype chat with me, reviewing their own country's donation pages. It will be done on a 'usability' format (I will ask you to read the text and go through the donation flow) and will be asking your feedback in the meanwhile.

The only pre-requisite is for the volunteer to actually live in the country and to have access to at least one donation method that we offer for that country (mainly credit/debit card, but also real-time banking like IDEAL, E-wallets, etc...) so we can do a live test and see if the donation goes through. All volunteers will be reimbursed of the donations that eventually succeed (and they will be low amounts, like 1-2 dollars)

Be a Wikimedia fundraising "User Experience" volunteer!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered last year on the Wikimedia fundraising 'User Experience' project. We have talked to many different people in different countries and their feedback has helped us immensely in restructuring our pages. If you haven't heard of it yet, the 'User Experience' project has the goal of understanding the donation experience in different countries (outside the USA) and enhancing the localization of our donation pages.

Wikimedia sites to move to primary data center in Ashburn, Virginia. Read-only mode expected.

(Apologies if this message isn't in your language.) Next week, the Wikimedia Foundation will transition its main technical operations to a new data center in Ashburn, Virginia, USA. This is intended to improve the technical performance and reliability of all Wikimedia sites, including this wiki. There will be some times when the site will be in read-only mode, and there may be full outages; the current target windows for the migration are January 22nd, 23rd and 24th, 2013, from 17:00 to 01:00 UTC (see other timezones on timeanddate.com). More information is available in the full announcement.

If you would like to stay informed of future technical upgrades, consider becoming a Tech ambassador and joining the ambassadors mailing list. You will be able to help your fellow Wikimedians have a voice in technical discussions and be notified of important decisions.

Hej.

För er som inte är aktiva på Wikipedia, så fungerar jag där som presskontakt, vilket huvudsakligen innebär att jag svarar på frågor från media men också skickar ut ett pressmeddelande ibland, om det är någonting särskilt som är värt att uppmärksamma. Det händer förstås att jag får frågor även om de mindre Wikimediaprojekten, och att det hade funnits pressmeddelanden som hade varit värda att skicka ut även här, men jag har varit mycket försiktig med att besvara dem (i egenskap av presskontakt i alla fall) och definitivt inte skickat ut några pressmeddelanden för saker som inte har med Wikipedia att göra eftersom jag inte anser mig ha något som helst mandat att företräda er.

Likväl hade det kanske ibland varit bra om någon hade gjort det, och de flesta Wikimediaprojekt, åtminstone på svenska, är så små att det kan vara svårt att nå ut med separat pressinformation. Convert complex templates to Lua to make them faster and more powerful

Greetings. As you might have seen on the Wikimedia tech blog or the tech ambassadors list, a new functionality called "Lua" is being enabled on all Wikimedia sites today. Lua is a scripting language that enables you to write faster and more powerful MediaWiki templates.

If you have questions about how to convert existing templates to Lua (or how to create new ones), we'll be holding two support sessions on IRC next week: one on Wednesday (for Oceania, Asia & America) and one on Friday (for Europe, Africa & America); see m:IRC office hours for the details. There is a new request for comment on Meta-Wiki concerning the removal of administrative rights from long-term inactive Wikimedians. Generally, this proposal from stewards would apply to wikis without an administrators' review process.

We are also compiling a list of projects with procedures for removing inactive administrators on the talk page of the request for comment. Feel free to add your project(s) to the list if you have a policy on administrator inactivity.

All input is appreciated. The discussion may close as soon as 21 May 2013 (2013-05-21), but this will be extended if needed.

[en] Change to section edit links

The default position of the "edit" link in page section headers is going to change soon. The "edit" link will be positioned adjacent to the page header text rather than floating opposite it.

Section edit links will be to the immediate right of section titles, instead of on the far right. If you're an editor of one of the wikis which already implemented this change, nothing will substantially change for you; however, scripts and gadgets depending on the previous implementation of section edit links will have to be adjusted to continue working; however, nothing else should break even if they are not updated in time.

Ideas to do this all the way to 2009 at least. It is often difficult to track which of several potential section edit links on the far right is associated with the correct section, and many readers and anonymous or new editors may even be failing to notice section edit links at all, since they read section titles, which are far away from the links.
